EASTER: Easter came with a magnificent entrance. It was a solemn moment lighting candles from the fire and entering the darkened church to an awakening of light for this very humble service and to also reveal the amazing art work displayed. The exhibition is just wonderful and I do hope that many visitors will come and view the paintings one of which, I hope, will be displayed with this column to give everyone a glimpse. Two very large canvases, painted by Sue Barnes, show some of St Laurence’s congregation, and everyone in the pictures feel very honoured to be shown. The exhibition is open during all the next weekend’s up to May 1. Do come and visit. The Easter Day service was followed by an egg hunt for the children, but what delightful children we have coming to the church, Jake and Erin insisted in sharing their eggs with the adults and even gave eggs to children outside the church, visiting the pond.
LADIES GROUP: The Ladies Group was a great success, with over 40 people attending to see John Burt’s postcards of Stanmer and Falmer, which he had painstakingly downloaded on to a DVD, some of the postcards dated back to over 100 years. John talked us through the pictures as if we were walking through times past. The area around the pond has not changed so much, and it was obvious that even in those days gone by that many people came to Falmer for a day visit as they do today. An excellent and entertaining visit.
CONCERT: The next concert will take place on Saturday April 9 at 5.30pm in St Laurence Church Falmer when the students from The East Sussex Academy of Music Lewes will be performing.
