SPRING?: Is it possible that spring is just around the corner? My garden is full of snowdrops and my camellias are covered in buds (that is until the squirrels start eating them). Earlier today a flock of sparrows were sitting in a tree outside my kitchen chattering away and catching insects quite close to where they usually nest in our roof. I do hope spring comes early this year, I think we are all fed up with cold and wet.

WATER: Talking of wet, I went to watch my granddaughter (five months old) have her swimming lesson. Helped by her dad, she lay on her back, went underwater and did some splashing. There were about six of these tiny tots in the class and they all seemed to be getting on really well. It is such a good idea to teach children to swim as early as possible.

CELEBRATIONS: We are all looking forward to the first of a spectacular season of concerts in this St. Laurence Bicentennial year. We have the Copper family singing for us in a couple of weeks (February 18) and other concerts will feature Jazz, Folk, Beethoven, Early music, and Mendelssohn and that is just up to June. If you enjoy an interesting lecture we also have academics from both University of Sussex and Brighton talking on such diverse subjects as nineteenth century science’s influence on language, architectural style and children’s literature. All the lectures take place at the University of Sussex Meeting House. Full details and times are on our website www.stanmerwithfalmer.com. Also in celebration of the Bicentennial we have had some cloth bags produced printed with our logo which will be available at concerts and other public events. Mugs are also on order and hopefully will be arriving soon.
