CHURCH SERVICES: Church of St Andrew and St Mary the Virgin, Sunday 10am Family Service; 5.30pm Evening Prayer.
BATTLE OF WATERLOO: 200th Anniversary Commemorative Service, tomorrow, Saturday, 2pm. This will be a special service, co-ordinated with the Fletching branch of the Royal British Legion, featuring Daniel Hattrell, local veteran of Waterloo who lies at rest in our Burial Ground.
Some of his descendants will be participating in the service. Fletching School Choir will be singing, the 1st Fletching Scout Group will be on parade, and the chairman of our parish council will also be present. We will end by walking out to Daniel Hattrell’s grave for a prayer and to lay a posy of Rosemary.
WATERLOO PARTY: Tomorrow, Saturday. All members of Fletching Parish are invited by Lady Collum to Clinton Lodge for an Afternoon of Fun to watch an enactment of the Battle of Waterloo. There will be skirmishes between 150 musketeers, horses, cannon, a tented encampment for the soldiers and other excitements. Entrance is free, but a donation to Fletching Village School would be appreciated.
FASHION SHOW: This is in aid of the bonfire society on Friday, July 17. Village hall doors open 7pm. Tickets at Mr T’s or Yvonne Thomas 01825 723275.
100 YEARS AGO: Sussex Express 9th July 1915. Uckfield Volunteer Corps. The Uckfield Company of the Sussex Volunteer Training Corps is open to all men who are not eligible for the Army residing in the Parishes of Uckfield, Buxted, Framfield, Isfield, Fletching, Danehill, Little Horsted, Maresfield and Nutley.
At present the Company has a roll of 104 members and drills take place at the Town Hall, Uckfield, or at Searles Riding School, Fletching, but additional parade grounds will be provided as required.
