CHURCH SERVICES: Church of St Andrew and St Mary the Virgin, Sunday, 10am Parish Communion, 5.30pm Holy Communion (1662).
BONFIRE SOCIETY: Fletching bonfire celebrations, tomorrow, Saturday. There will be a road closure from Church Corner to Splaynes Green from 7pm to 10pm. Car parks are available at both ends of the village (weather permitting). We would like villagers to join us for our short procession in fire retardant fancy dress costumes. Registration will be from 6pm outside the village hall. The cost is £1 per adult 50p per child. All children need to be accompanied by an adult. Only children over the age of 12 can carry a torch. 7.45pm, Lighting of Poppies and remembrance at the War Memorial followed by formation of the procession. 8pm, procession leaves Church Corner and goes up Atheralls. 8.30pm, bonfire and firework display. We felt it would not be the same without a procession and because we want to make it a family evening and get the village to join in.
We are putting on the firework display for free to everyone this year but would ask that you give generously on your way out in order for us to put on a display next year. We have also decided that as from next year we will be charging to watch the firework display as it costs several thousands and we obviously do not make this up in fund raising throughout the year. Lastly we hope that you will be able to come and support us and join in.
We will need volunteers on Sunday morning to help sweep the streets and pick the rubbish up and also we need to pick up all the empty firework cases, fuses, plastic etc from the field so if anybody can help on Sunday with the clearing up then please contact me on 01273 476360 or 07591993051. (Sarah Bradford).
