CHURCH SERVICES: Church of St Andrew and St Mary the Virgin, Sunday, 10am Parish Communion and Sunday Club.

SUNDAY CLUB: Why not give dad a break on Father’s Day morning? Come and join us on Sunday, 9.45am at the village hall. We will be making Father’s Day gifts for you to take home to Dad and there will be time for a few games too. Pick up from the church at 11am. Children under 4 years welcome with a parent or guardian.

SUSSEX BORN: For their Summer Concert on June 19, The Fletching Singers will perform Sussex Born, a group of four songs specially composed for the choir by Simon Austin. The choir will also be celebrating the Shakespeare Quatercentenary with settings of some of the songs from Shakespeare’s plays. The audience is invited to bring a picnic to enjoy in the beautiful grounds of Cumnor House School during the interval. Sunday, 6.30pm at Cumnor House School Theatre.

PAINTERS’ CLUB: The club meets on Wednesday at 1pm.

MARTIAL ARTS: Kobudo Martial Arts is on Thursday at 5pm.

100 YEARS AGO: Sussex Express 23 June 1916. Fletching Organist to be a soldier. AH Saunders, clerk, organist at Fletching Church, and music teacher, applied on ground of serious hardship for conditional exemption. Applicant was granted conditional exemption on the understanding that he joined the Volunteer Training Corps. The Chairman expressed the opinion that such a condition was a little hard on applicant. Alderman Holman said that in wartime music was a luxury. Even if applicant was a busy man he could find time to serve in the Corps. The Chairman remarked that he had no doubt applicant would make an effort to fulfill the requirements.
