100 YEARS AGO: Sussex Express 19th January 1917. Piltdown Farmer Fined. Pigs Not Accounted For. At Uckfield Petty Sessions yesterday, before Major R L Thornton and other justices. Percy Grover, farmer and pig dealer, Piltdown, was summoned for having made a false statement in his register as to the number of swine purchased by him, at Maresfield, on November 7, 1916.

Mr F Lawson Lewis, who prosecuted, said the case was important because it was essential that the registers should be kept with scrupulous care so that the pigs could be traced wherever they went. There was no excuse for defendant, who should have known the regulations.
