100 YEARS AGO: In February 1916 the Rev F Clyde Harvey wrote: Dear Friends, On February 20 the Offertories will be for Church of England Men’s Army Huts at the front. The Archbishops of Canterbury and York and the Chaplain General of the Forces say ‘The Church of home, we know, is most anxious to support the devoted Chaplains of our Expeditionary Forces in affording comfort and help to our brave men after hard days and nights in the trenches: and their claim upon us is all the stronger when it is realised that two-thirds of the troops are Churchmen.’ The next Day of Intercession for the War at the Mother’s Union will be on Friday Feb 4 from 10am to 4pm in church.
