VILLAGE DAY: There are now just two weeks to go until local residents and visitors alike can enjoy the Cross in Hand Village Day 2015. The event will take place at the Hardy Roberts Playing Fields on Saturday August 1, between 1pm and 5pm. New for this year are falconry and cheerleading displays, alongside the always popular children’s entertainment, stalls, fun dog show and barbecue. Local children’s author Andrea Keer will also be signing copies of her new book, Wellington the Gardening Dog. Villagers are invited to show off their baking skills by entering the Cross in Hand Village Bake Off. Entries will be expertly judged by Albion Bakery, who are also supplying prizes. More details and entry forms can be found www.crossinhandvillageday.com. Proceeds from this year’s event will go towards funding important new medical equipment at the local doctor’s surgery. Event secretary, Mary Cottingham (01435 866462), would love to hear from volunteers from the local community who can spare a few hours on the day to help with setting-up and making the event run smoothly.
