COFFEE MORNING: A coffee morning at the Methodist Church Hall to raise funds for the Cross in Hand Village Fete is on Saturday, March 12, from 10am to noon. Everyone welcome.
CROSS IN HAND WI: At this month’s meeting, members were highly entertained by the Dowager Lady Crabtree, who gave us a humorous talk on Growing Old Disgracefully. We all learnt some very good tips on how to make the most of growing old whilst having fun at the same time, the secret seems to be in smiling a lot, wearing bright red lipstick and above all else no sensible shoes. Birthday flowers were presented to Heather Stevens, Dawn Brock, Helen Whiteman, Kathy Haragen, and Margaret Ivey. A large number of events have been arranged, all of which are very reasonably priced and provide valuable opportunities for learning, meeting new friends and of course having fun. We always welcome new members and are keen to encourage anyone of any age to join us, the only qualification you require is enthusiasm and a good sense of humour (and the fact you are female too of course) so why not come along and see for yourselves.
Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday March 23, 2pm at Cross-in-Hand Village Hall when our speaker will be Jo Osborne with a talk entitled World of Water. For further information or membership enquiries please telephone: Anita Jobling 01435 863479 or Margaret Dove 01435 867076.

HEATHFIELD CHORAL SOCIETY: Come and join Heathfield Choral Society at Broad Oak Village Hall on Saturday April 23 between 10.30am and 4.30pm to sing Howard Goodall’s Every Purpose under the Heaven. Conducted by Brian Newman, this is Goodall’s latest work, based upon ten of the most familiar passages from the King James Bible. First performed in November 2011 at Westminster Abbey, the work was commissioned to mark the 400th anniversary of this translation. HCS is one of the few choirs in the country to perform this work, which will be staged at the State Hall in Heathfield on Saturday May 21 at 7.30pm when Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man will also be part of the repertoire. Full of memorable tunes and exciting rhythms this is a great opportunity to learn this work in the company of a large choir. All voices welcome. The cost of the day will be £15 to include the hire of music and light refreshments. To register for this event, please e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 01323 833921.
