SECRET GARDEN: Tomorrow, Saturday, at MistyAcres on Horsebridge from 11am to 5pm there is a fundraising event for St Wilfrid’s Hospice offering plants, bric-a-brac, books and refreshments. This is a lovely garden with birds and rabbits and a wildlife pond to browse around amongst chickens wandering and bees working. Entry is by suggested donation of £2 adults and U15s free.
HELLINGLY CHURCH: Sunday, 8am Holy Communion Hellingly, 10.45am Holy Communion Hellingly. (Fourth Sunday 10.45am Family Service Hellingly). Every Thursday 9.30am BCP Holy Communion at Hellingly. Look out in July, the Family Service will be a Pet Service.
GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE: The Garden of Remembrance was discussed and a simpler design was agreed. The eastern boundary of the churchyard is thought to be the most suitable area. The Chancellor is not in favour of individual marker stones but prefers a book of Remembrance, with a stone indicating the Garden of Remembrance. A quotation will be sought.
THE DICKER PLAYERS: Go along and support your local amateur dramatic group for their performance of ‘Allo ‘Allo which is at The Pavilion in Hailsham between Friday July 10 and Saturday July 11. Tickets are £10, £9 students and seniors. Visit www.dickerplayers.co.uk .
SUMMER IN BLOOM: On Saturday June 27 there is a 90 minute Garden Tour at Michelham Priory exploring the seven acres of historic gardens as they are in full bloom, with the head gardener, James Neil. Price includes entrance to the house and grounds, tour and soup and fresh bread roll in the café. Tour starts at 11am. £15 for Non-members. £10 for Sussex Archaeological Society Members and Friends of Michelham Priory. Numbers are limited so please book in advance. Call 01323 844224 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
BALL GAMES: Continued vandalism of the No Ball Games sign was a concern at the recent Arlington Parish Council meeting. The PC represent all villagers and do not allow ball games on this site due to the possible damage to people’s property, the risk to those playing with the ball when trying to retrieve it next to a busy road and the risk to drivers. There is a large recreation ground nearby which is a lot more suitable (and safer) for ball games. Following concerns expressed by the public, the Parish Council decided against introducing a Byelaw at the Village Green and will continue to monitor whether the sign acts as sufficient deterrent against ball games being played.
FATHERS DAY LUNCH: Treat your dad to a two or three course lunch this Father’s Day at Michelham Priory. Meal includes tea, coffee, mints and free have-a-go archery for dad plus entry into the house and gardens. Pre booking and deposit required, call 01323 844224 or email email@example.com.
GHOST WALK: On Friday June 26 there is a 90 minute walk through Michelham Priory which offers stories of ghosts and paranormal activity, together with a little of the history and characters of the priory’s past. Presented with a little humour from Sussex’s premier paranormal entertainment company, Sussex Darkside. To book visit www.sussexdarkside.co.uk or call 07956 307684.
