WARTLING: St Mary Magdalene has a service on Sunday at 9.45am Morning Prayer (CW). PCSO STREET MEETING: Pop along to the Village Information Centre BN27 4LG between 10am and 10.30am on Thursday and meet your local PCSO and discuss any issues you may have.
BOWLS: The bowling club had three friendly matches last week scoring 57 to Mayfield’s 65, 68 to Herstmonceux Cricket Club’s 64 and beating Battle 70 to 55 shots. The league match was against Wadhurst scoring 61 to their 84 which gained them one point on the league table.
FLOWER SHOW: Windmill Hill Horticultural Society has its 138th Summer Show on Saturday August 1 between 2pm and 4.30pm at The Reid Hall, Boreham Street. Entrance is £1, children free. Free parking. There are classes for flowers, decorative, fruit and vegetables, novelty, home produce, children, photographs and handicrafts. There will also be stalls, tombola, raffle, bric-a-brac, the human fruit machine, teas and refreshments. The society welcomes entries from everyone members and non-members alike. Schedules can be picked up from the Windmill Hill Stores, the Village Information Centre and via Alan Sephton on 833626 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. You still have time to enter as entry forms and fees have to be in no later than 6pm on Wednesday.
WALKS: The Sunday walkers will meet at 10am at Hailsham Leisure Centre for a four-mile walk in the Plumpton area. Walk leader is Helen on 848790. The Tuesday evening walk is from Pevensey to Rickney of four to five miles with Rosemary on 842032 meeting at Westham church at 6.30pm.
If you would like to go along then please give the walk leader a ring in the first instance for details. If in doubt about the difficulty of a walk or if the weather is poor please ring the walk leader before setting out. You are responsible for your own well being and are advised to carry basic first aid and drinking water. New members and well behaved dogs are welcome.
HEARING BUS: The East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre and Adult Social Care mobile unity will be visiting the village hall car park, Hailsham Road, Herstmonceux from 10.30am to 3.30pm on Thursday August 6. The bus is accessible to wheelchair users and representatives will be available to provide individual information and advice on all aspects of hearing loss. OBSERVATORY WORKSHOPS: Local school summer holidays open daily 10am to 6pm. Last admission 4pm. In addition there will be the following children’s, age 6 to 9 years, workshops 10.30am to 1pm and 2pm to 4.30pm. Cost £10.75 per child, this is for the workshop only. Book is essential. CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU: The Village Information Centre is offering a new service in conjunction with the Citizens Advice Bureau. Problems can be discussed privately with a CAB advisor via a video telephone link. This service is only available on a Tuesday morning between 10am and 12noon.
SUMMER FETE: Orchard View Park, Windmill Hill is holding a Summer Fete on Saturday August 1, 2pm to 5pm. Fun for all the family includes children’s fancy dress competition, bouncy castle, vintage cars, cream teas, candy floss and lots more. There will be Live Music by the ‘Recycled’ group. All proceeds to Chestnut Tree House and to Prostate Cancer.
DIG FOR VICTORY: This is a village show with a 1940s touch at the Merrie Harriers from 1.30pm on Sunday August 2. Competitions for flowers, vegetables, fruit and eggs. Companion dog show £1 entry per class. Human fruit machine, flower arranging and handicraft, classes for children, stalls, sideshows, games, auction, vintage vehicles, live music with the Warbleton Band, and forces favourites disco, period dress, tea and cake tent, barbecue, beer tent. Entrance only £1. Presented by the Cowbeech Bonfire Society. All profits go to the Local Good Causes funds.
