SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: The school was very excited to be taking part in The Lewes Sings Gospel Festival last Sunday. In the last week of term five, members of Lewes Sings Gospel Choir treated the children to a performance during assembly and the school would like to thank those members who volunteered to sing for them in their own spare time.
It was a spine-tingling experience to hear the group sing, and allowed the children to hear and see what gospel music is all about. During the first week back, Year 5, and some children from Year 6, took part in an amazing two-hour workshop led by an experienced gospel choir leader.
She taught them two songs which they then performed at The Dome on Sunday June 7. ‘This was a truly memorable experience for all involved and the school would like to thank the Friends for enabling all children to attend the concert by funding a coach’. I must say that the children took to the whole experience without flinching.
They clearly knew what they needed to do and seemed unfazed by the huge audience, filling the Dome in Brighton, who were singing and clapping along with them for some of the time. Well done South Malling, and all the schools who took part, who did equally well.
Once again the school held their popular Music for a Summer Evening event at South Malling Church on Thursday.
This was an opportunity to come and hear the amazing musical talents of many of the children. A big thank you from the school to Ms O’Neil and Mrs Starnes for organising it and to South Malling Church for hosting it.
SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: (One of the Trinity churches) has agreed to take the next steps in repairing their roof and is now seeking permission from the Diocese and the planning authorities.
They have already been promised a government grant towards the cost of this if it all goes through. This coming Sunday is a Family Service which will be taken by the Vicar, Revd Steve Daughtery. Everyone is welcome to this informal and friendly service, which begins at 9.30am and lasts for about an hour.
