SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: Had many successes to be proud of last year including their best ever Key Stage SATs results, fantastic music and drama performances, great sporting achievements and a thriving wildlife area including even more chickens. The head, Mrs O’Donoghue says, ‘Our ambitions haven’t tailed off for 2015-16 and we will keep reaching for the stars in everything we do.’

Following their consultation the school is delighted to report that the Windmill Nursery has now become part of the school which is now officially called South Malling CE Primary and Nursery School. The Head says, ‘This is a really exciting move and we are looking forward to keeping and developing the many strengths of the Windmill Nursery provision so that our youngest children come into school ready to learn.’ Breakfast and After-School Clubs will also now be run by the school who are pleased to announce that they will be extending their After School provision so that it is available on Monday to Thursday. The school is also delighted to welcome Mrs Spall to their wonderful staff team. She is joining them to work as the teaching assistant in the Reception class this year. She is also able to provide cover for the Early Years teachers and will be a real asset to their team. They also welcome Miss Kate Matthews who is training to be a teacher and will be working in the Gold Giraffe class.

ARTWAVE: Artwavev in Malling were joined by Gabrielle Lord in her home at the Lynchetts for the last weekend of the event. Gabrielle was showing an impressive group of well-executed charcoal nudes together with a small number of acrylic paintings. It was good to see another Malling artist joining the current exhibitors. Attendance on the last weekend was high on the Saturday but tailed off on Sunday. It was not quite as high overall as last year, which might be an effect of the withdrawal of Old Malling Farmhouse now that its previous owner has left. Many thanks to the Artwave team with the District Council and sponsors Winkworth, Wave and the Print Room for their support and hard work after another successful season.

SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: Last Sunday a large congregation enjoyed Holy Communion amongst the Artwave paintings. At the beginning of the service, Steve and Rebekka from Open Hands Charity spoke about their work in helping families living in extreme poverty in Romania, particularly those with disabled children. They are the latest of a group of small scale mission partners whom the three Trinity churches have committed to supporting financially, with prayer and in other ways. This week, there will be a Family Service with Youth Minister Dianne Hamilton. The service begins at 9.30am and all are welcome.
