SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: The final week before the holidays included some great events put on by the Friends of South Malling (the PTA). On Thursday they arranged a delicious cake sale after school and on Friday (today) there is the famous and very popular South Malling disco for children and parents. All funds raised go towards enriching the children’s educational experiences. Well done to the netball teams who played in the Lewes cluster netball tournament. They got through to the final and were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Wallands. They all had an enjoyable and exciting afternoon and were very proud of their success. The school is looking forward to the Bonfire assembly, after the holidays on Friday November 6, and seeing all the interesting costumes the children will have worn on November 5. Children return to school after half-term on Monday November 2.

SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: This coming Sunday, the church has its informal service of Morning Praise at 9.30am. All are welcome. The church’s Harvest Gifts were taken to the Malling Food Bank last Monday. The Food Bank had to move out of the Community Centre about a year ago because the rent was an additional unwelcome cost, but King’s Church, opposite Homebase, have been able to lend them a warm and spacious room with no charge, and they are working to pay off rent arrears for the Community Centre. It is good to see that they are continuing to provide this valuable service for Lewes people with the other two Food banks in Lewes.

ALISON PRICE-DEANS: We were very sorry to hear of the death last week of Alison Price-Deans who writes the Southover column in Village News. She was a brave, indefatigable and very pleasant and capable woman, who continued writing her column to the very end, despite a battle with cancer. She will be sadly missed. Her funeral was on Thursday of this week, appropriately at Southover Church.
