SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: The Christmas festivities have well and truly begun at South Malling this week. On Thursday there was the very popular Decoration Day in which all the children make a range of decorations throughout the day. It was fantastic to have so much parent support. Without their wonderful help the school would still be knee deep in glue and glitter. Today (Friday) is the Christmas Fair, organised by the Friends of South Malling. The children love the chance to meet Father Christmas in his grotto, decorate biscuits and try their luck on the teddy tombola. For the adults there is mulled wine, entertainment from the Choir and the thrill of the hamper auction. Tomorrow, Saturday, the Choir will be making a guest appearance at the Eastgate Church coffee morning, in town. This has always been a fun family occasion, supported by the community and the school. The Head says, ‘Please feel free to come and join us from 10.30am.’

POPPIES GALORE: Congratulations to Eve Empringham and her friends who have raised £1256.30, so far, by knitting and selling poppies to support the poppy appeal. She wishes to say a huge thank you to all who bought, sold and helped to make, the poppies. ‘This record-breaking sum could not have been reached without you.’

SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: The church enjoyed their Advent Sunday Service, with coffee and biscuits available throughout the service, last Sunday. They then came together for a presentation by the Associate Vicar, Revd Jeremy Bamber, and members of the Church Council, on plans to grow their children’s work, continue to strengthen and refurbish the church building, and extend their service to the community with a wide range of activities for all ages. They also talked about how to change the pattern of their Sunday worship to ensure that people new to the church would find a ready welcome and an environment where they feel comfortable, easily involved and amongst friends. This Sunday, there is communion service at 9.30am. On Sunday December 13, Christmas really begins for the church with the popular Carols by Candle Light Service at 6.30pm finishing with mulled wine and mince pies. Please make a note of the date and time.
