SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: The parents and friends of the Year 4 and 5 children were treated to an amazing Bookworms Bonanza performance this week. The three classes used music, song, dance and the spoken word to tell the story of their chosen books. A huge thank you to all the teachers whose hard work helped to make it such a success. The Friends of South Malling are holding a Jumble Sale tomorrow, Saturday, at the school, from 10am to noon. This is always a popular event so come early to make sure you don’t miss out on some great bargains. The school would like you to know that their Nursery is currently taking applications for September 2016. They ask: Was your child born between September 2012 and 31st August 2013 or do you know someone with a child who was? We can offer flexible sessions based on 15 hours per week at our wonderful school nursery. For more information, to book a visit or to collect our handbook and space reservation form, contact Catherine in the nursery by phone or email: 01273 471100 email@example.com.
SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: Last Sunday, took a serious look at ECO issues with their Vicar, Revd Steve Daughtery, who spoke about Creation Care, God’s expectation that human beings should safeguard the world and not exploit it. He focussed on the life of a chicken brought up inside a barn with a minimum of room for movement and killed within five weeks to be sold at a very low price which we are all supposed to demand. He urged that such an approach hardly responds to God’s expectation of human beings set out in Genesis. Instead, we are required to care for creation and do our best to respond to His expectation that we respect the world that He has given us. This coming Sunday, there will be a service of morning Praise, with music supported by the band. All are welcome, the service begins at 9.30am. On Sunday, the service will be followed, around 10.30am with the church’s annual meeting, led by Associate Vicar, Jeremy Bamber. Next week, at 8pm on Wednesday, there will be a meeting of the three Trinity churches, and amongst other matters, they will be considering a request to the diocese to merge the three parishes, South Malling, Southover and St John sub Castro, making it possible to share ministry throughout their current three separate parishes. The process itself will take about a year if it is agreed.
COUNCILLOR: Town and District Councillor, Daisy Cooper resigned from both posts last week. She has said that matters in her professional and personal life have contributed to make the role very demanding for her. She has been a very active councillor, and will be much missed. By-elections will take place on June 2.
