SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: This week, Year 5 children and their teachers are off on an adventure to Southease Youth Hostel. They are staying the night there on Thursday and will be busy with all sorts of outdoor, geography-related activities, such as working out the speed at which the River Ouse is flowing and sketching the view of the valley from the top of the Downs. It is also a great opportunity for some team building and peer support. The Head says, ‘Many thanks to the Friends of South Malling who worked really hard organising the Jumble Sale last week. They raised nearly £500, which was fantastic.’ Next week our Year 6 children sit their SATs tests. The new style tests are very challenging and we have been impressed with the children’s positive attitudes and growth mind-set in the last few weeks. We wish them lots of luck and hope they can enjoy showing off their wonderful learning.

SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: Meets on Sunday in the school hall, not in the church building. Everyone is welcome to what will be a modern-style service with music provided by the band and a cafe style layout, with coffee and refreshments at no cost. This is the second of a series of family services to be held in the school. It is led by Neil Chisnall, Family, Schools and Children’s Minister in the Trinity churches. The service begins at 9.30am and all are welcome. Also today, Friday, two Malling residents are getting married in Malling church: Gemma and Arun Atkins. Best wishes to them both for a happy day, and a really happy marriage, beginning with good weather this Friday.
