SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: Last week the Children’s Club began a project which looks like lasting until late November. They are creating an installation, inspired by Grayson Perry and based on the episode of the loaves and fishes in the New Testament. It is hoped also to involve the school. At the end of the service the children and their leaders proudly brought out a massive template of a fish, which they had filled in with small, colourful plastic ponies to make a very impressive and professional start. When the installation is complete it will illustrate the way in which five loaves and fish can become food for five thousand hungry people. More of this as the children work out the miracle, in metal and plastic, in the next few months. This coming Sunday, Revd Dick Field will lead a service of Holy Communion, with Reader, Ken Bridger, speaking about what Jesus told the disciples about his forthcoming death and resurrection. Children are welcome and will have their own teaching and activity during the service, which begins at 9.30am.

ARTWAVE IN MALLING: Begins tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday at The Old Brewery in Thomas Street (10am to 4pm) and Bifrost Cottage, 147 Malling Street (10am to 4.30pm). The Old Brewery and The Dairy Studio at Old Malling Farm will be open during the Bank Holiday weekend (the Dairy Studio opens between 11am and 4pm). Bifrost Cottage will be open on August 28 only on that weekend. We wish them many visitors and every success, do go along and support local artists. More of this next week.
