SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: Last week we welcomed prospective parents to our lovely school. Our Year 6 pupils did an amazing job as ambassadors, showing parents round the school and answering their questions. They were a credit to our school and demonstrated the South Malling character strengths of professionalism, humanity and eloquence really well. This week we are beginning our Christmas celebrations and will be looking forward to enjoying several events and activities with parents, carers and families. Each class will be having a decoration morning in which the children and many of their parents, will be making creative, mathematical and recyclable decorations for the school whilst they sing along to Christmas songs. By next week the festive spirit will really be upon us as we start our nativity performance for Key Stage 1, Lights, Camel, Action and our choir go to sing at Glyndebourne as part of the Big Sing Festival. The festive season has arrived.
TRINITY SOUTH MALLING: (Parish Church). This Sunday, instead of the All Age Service, the children will be rehearsing for an All Trinity Nativity Play which takes place at St John sub Castro on Sunday December 23. This Sunday’s service will be Morning Praise, led by the Revd Steve Daughtery, with the Music Group. His focus will be Faith Alone. The service begins at 9.30am. This will be the second Sunday of Advent and time marches on. Please make a note that the Carol Service at Malling will be on December 16 at 6.30pm and not to be missed. One Malling resident always says that, for him, this parish church service always marks the real beginning of Christmas. All are welcome to all Trinity services. You will probably have had a card that lists them all through your letterbox. Other details will be on the notice board.
RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION: Last Wednesday, the Annual General Meeting agreed to separate the management of the Food Bank from that of the main residents’ association. This is partly because of the growth of the Food Bank which now has customers from as far as Hailsham and is accepting referrals from the government, not just from the Malling area. The committee will continue to be part of the residents association so that access to support and grants, and the kind of pull that the association has, is not lost. (Not least the continuing support of local people and access to various government bodies). So, there will be another Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day, and once again local people are invited to drop in, and to help out, as so many did last year. More of this next week. Meanwhile, you need to know that the split was agreed so that the focus on our wider community can be single-minded and the food bank can focus on its own, particular issues. Both aspects of the organisation will be properly served. More of this next week.
REED COURT: (Boughey Place). Please don’t forget their coffee morning tomorrow, Saturday, in aid of Chestnut House Hospice for children with Cancer, 10am to 1pm. Come for a social morning and support a good cause. Coffee and cakes for sale, good company and lovely people.
