CHRIST CHURCH: We will soon be delivering Christmas cards to all the houses in the vicinity of the church. Do look out for your card. The card will have details of all the services and activities that will be going on at Christ Church over the Christmas period. Worship on Sunday at 10.30am will be led by Rev Geoffrey Gordon and at 7pm we will be joining with St Anne’s Church for a joint Advent Carol Service. Last Sunday our minister, Rev John Gordon, collected gifts of essential toiletry items from members of the congregation and John and his wife took these to the refugee camps in Calais on Monday.

BOROUGH BONFIRE SOCIETY: Will be holding a Christmas Fair Saturday December 5, 11am to 4pm at St Mary’s Supporters Club, Christie Road. Craft stalls, meet Santa in his grotto, refreshments, Christmas tombola, Christmas hamper draw, lucky dip. For stall bookings and info contact Emma on 07549 829466 or Hayley on 07931 144397.

WALLANDS SCHOOL: Last Friday everyone wore spots, pajamas and non-school uniform to raise money for Children In Need. We raised a whopping £726.81. Well done to everyone who brought in coins, we are all hugely grateful. Congratulations to Jonathan Britnell who played a key part in helping Sussex to win the National Youth Chess Association U12 title in Telford. Our football league continued on Wednesday, despite the weather. The boys played two games and won both of them. Well done boys. We attended the annual Yr3/4 Basketball Festival on Wednesday. This is a lovely event introducing the children to the different skills required to play Basketball. It consists of a variety of fun skills and drills all against the clock. The children returned to school beaming and full of excitement at representing the school for the first time. We’re waiting to hear how our team got on. Well done to them all. Junior Choir members have been working very hard all term, attending weekly rehearsals as well as special workshops with professional conductor (and former Wallands’ pupil) Lee Reynolds. Come and enjoy seasonal musical favorites (and perhaps some musical surprises) at any of our three Christmas Concert collaborations: November 29 at 4pm and 6.30pm: Kantanti Family Favorites. Lewes Town Hall December 6, 4pm: Sing Noel, with the New Sussex Singers. St Anne’s Church on December 12, 6.30pm: Christmas Celebration, with the Baroque Collective Singers and St Micheal’s Church, Festive Family Open Evening at Lewes Community Fire Station December 3, 3pm to 5.30pm. Meet Santa and see the Christmas tree and tower lights being switched on.

LEWES NEVILLE WI: At its meeting on Wednesday we had a very entertaining and informative talk by Jane Muddle of Madajazz on bags and hats from Madagascar. She told us a bit about herself and how she had got into selling the bags and hats and also about Madagascar which we were amazed to hear was an island larger than France. The bags and hats are handwoven from raffia and imported using fair trade principles and help both humanitarian and environmental projects in one of the poorest countries of the world. Members were able to purchase some of the many examples. There were many smart and also fun designs. At our December meeting we are looking forward to being entertained with Christmas music by Rita Allcorn and Theresa Hayward and feasting on fish and chips followed by delicious desserts. A very jolly finish to a very successful and fun filled year.
