ST MARY’S SUPPORTERS CLUB: Bingo tonight (Friday) at the club. Eyes down at 8.30pm sharp. Cash prizes and raffle. Don’t forget it’s the AGM on Monday.

CONTINUATION OF SPORTS DAY HISTORY: In 2012 the introduction of medals took place for first, second and third, which was well received by those taking part. To comply with health and safety (where were they when sports day started?), certain changes had to take place. Long jump had to become Standing Jump and the High jump became Speed Bounce. The cross country event had to be dropped due to lack of interest. This always took place on the Thursday prior to sports day, and in my time was hotly contested. In 2015 the new chair person, Mel Jarman took over, ably assisted by Annabel Pilot. This year’s event will take place on June 25 from 10am to 6pm so encourage your children to come along and take part in this historical sporting event.

CHRIST CHURCH: Worship on Sunday at 10.30am will include Holy Communion and will be led by Rev Darryl Sinclair. Sunday Club for children will be meeting during the service. Last Sunday our Mission Committee introduced our overseas charity for the year. We will be supporting Virtual Doctors and we aim to raise £2000 to be spent on Smartphones and Data. This charity is working with Health Workers in Zambia and the smartphones enable them to send electronic patient files to volunteer doctors in the UK for diagnosis and treatment advice, helping to save lives.

NEVILL JUVENILE BONFIRE SOCIETY: An Extravaganza to celebrate the Queen’s official 90th birthday. This follows on from previous events to celebrate royal occasions on the estate, The Extravaganza is to be held tomorrow, Saturday, on Nevill Green. The event includes a tea for all residents of Nevill estate who have reached the age of 90, with the Mayor of Lewes coming along to cut the celebratory cake. We are still searching for all those residents on the estate who have reached the age of 90 so we can include them in our special celebration. As in past years, the society are holding the event in two parts with an afternoon fayre between noon and 4.30pm followed by an evening of live music from 6pm to 10pm. The fayre includes displays, games, stalls, food and drink. Arena events are to include a display from the Lewes Dance Academy, a ladies and men’s Tug of War competition between the bonfire societies for the coveted bonfire cup, a speed torch-making competition and the very best of music from the Starfish Youth Music Project. The headline act for the evening music will be The Fat Belly Jones Band, a popular nine piece band, supported by senior Starfish bands. The evening will be concluded with a small firework display paying tribute to the Queen and another Olympic year. This part of the event is ticketed with tickets priced at £4 in advance and family tickets at £15 (two adults and up to three children). These will be available at Lewes Local newsagents on Nevill Estate. We hope many local community groups will have stalls at the Extravaganza and contact me on 07772031269 or by email
