TWITCHERS: I have never really understood bird Twitchers which was what our talk was about at the Riverside Club last week. Matt our presenter was giving an excellent talk on birds, when he told us about travelling from Lewes to the Isle of Lewis in Scotland, to see a Wilson’s Warbler which is only usually seen in America. Due to exceptional weather conditions, the bird had landed up on the Isle of Lewis. What a stunningly beautiful bird it is. Maybe I can see what the attraction is.

NEWS REPORTS: My wife is more and more irritated by the media who seem obsessed with peoples ages. Have you noticed that on game shows, everyone has to say how old they are? Does that make a difference to their intelligence? Saturdays newspaper had a news item about the woman who won Masterchef last week and what was the first word in the write up? Grandmother Irini Tzortzoglou won. Does being a grandmother come with some secret ingredient that made her a winner? If so, my wife wants some of it. I won’t repeat what she said.

CHRIST CHURCH: Christ Church Tots meet today, Friday, for the last time before the Easter holidays with a session for pre-school children and their carers from 9.30am to 11.30am. On Sunday our service at 10.30am will be led by Claire Bell. Next week (April 14) our service will be followed by the Annual Church Meeting, which will review our progress over the last year and look ahead to 2019-20. We are collecting donations to help people affected by the devastating Cyclone Idai in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi. Our donations will be passed to Christian Aid, who are working with the local authorities and charities in the three countries on the recovery effort. We have a special set of services over Holy Week and Easter and there will be more information in next week’s column.

ST MARY’S SUPPORTERS CLUB: Bingo tonight, Friday, with cash prizes and raffle. Eyes down at 8.30pm. Everyone welcome. Saturday April 12 from 6pm there is an opportunity for non members both adults and children to come along and see what the club has to offer. Pop in for a chat and a drink. There will be our mini skittles alley, toads and table tennis available. Everyone welcome. Why not take a look at our website, to see what events are being held and how to make a booking or become a member.

ST ANNE’S CHURCH: The church is now open on a daily basis with a rapidly growing Junior Church and has developed into an important venue for concerts and community events. Ramped access to the church will be available in time for Easter from the Twitten. The next lunchtime recital will be Thursday April 25 at 1.10pm and will be George Fu, Piano.
