COUNTRY MARKET: Newick Country Market will be open today, Friday, in the village hall from 10am till 11am. There is a good selection of locally grown vegetables, home baked cakes, plus savoury items. You can also purchase fresh eggs, preserves, locally produced cheeses and charcuterie. They also have a good selection of handmade greetings cards and knitted items, flowers and plants. Make sure you arrive early so not to be disappointed. Tea/ coffee are available.
ANNUAL SHOW: Newick Horticultural Society will be holding their Annual Show and Family Fun Dog Show on the Village Green tomorrow, Saturday, from 2pm. Admission £1.50. If you have recently moved into the village, this is a great event to see some splendid vegetables, flowers, plus flower arranging, with a lovely children’s section. Please support this real village event and meet lots of people you haven’t seen for months.
BOWLS: The Bowls Club will be playing at home tomorrow, Saturday, against Balcombe at 2.30pm. On Sunday they are playing way against Mackie, play will commence at 2pm. Then on Wednesday there will be a home games against Hampden Park at 2.30pm.
CRICKET: The cricket club will be playing the last league games tomorrow, Saturday. The first XI will be travelling to Lewes St Michaels, the second XI will be playing at home against Hailsham II, the third XI will be playing on the Temple Grove Ground against Seaford III, and the fourth XI will make a short journey to Seaford. All of this matches will commence at 12.30pm. No doubt there will be a Sunday friendly fixture. Ring 07794 569 957 for further details.
CHURCH SERVICES: St Mary’s Church services on Sunday are Holy Communion at 8am followed at 10.30am with the Family Service with Baptism. There will also be a Choral Evensong at 6.30pm. Everyone most welcome to attend these services.
LADIES SUPPER: There will be a Ladies Supper in the Barn Centre today, Friday. Tickets are £10, telephone 01825 722846 or 723066 to obtain your ticket.
AFTERNON CLUB: Newick Afternoon Club will be meeting on Thursday September 19 in the Community Centre. The speaker will be Dr Don. Funnell. Don is an expert on people who live in mountains and his subject will be High Society – The Ups and Downs of Living in Mountains. NEW MEMBERS: The Badminton Club are looking for new members, first session free. They meet on Tuesday evenings at 7.45pm in the village hall. COFFEE MORNING: On Saturday September 12, at Newick Community Centre Coffee Morning there will be a second hand book stall. If you have any books you would like to donate please telephone 01825 722583, or take them along on the day.
DRAMA: Newick Amateur Dramatic Society, will be holding a Murder Mystery evening on Saturday September 12 in the village hall. Doors open 7.15pm for 8pm. Tickets £25 to include a three course meal.
