PEACEHAVEN WI: Our president welcomed members to the July meeting, after which a report was given on the annual meeting of the National Federation of WI’s at the Brighton Centre on June 11. It ended very patriotically with around 4,500 ladies waving flags and singing Rule Britannia. Unfortunately a small group did not join in and caused some controversy.
Following tea, two delightful young ladies from Raystede gave a talk on their work, accompanied by Lewis, a beautiful golden retriever dog, the charity’s mascot, who soon became friends with everyone. The girls spoke of the many and varied animals that are rescued and looked after before, hopefully, they are rehomed. Donations are all important to them as they have no funding from the government and the cost per day is an astronomical £6,000, to provide sanctuary to the 2,000 animals abandoned each year. Reluctantly we said goodbye to Lewis and the meeting closed.
Please note, there is no meeting in August but we look forward to seeing you on September 7. Enjoy your summer break. (Joy Allen).
