Piddinghoe Village Hall events: Thursday 1 October 2pm-4pm Fun Quiz as part of Older People’s Day. No prizes but plenty of Tea and Cakes.

Weather: When is a garden not a garden? When, after the deluge, it becomes a pond. I looked out of my window this morning to see six mallard ducks swimming where once was my lawn!

Produce: This year I was looking forward to reaping the benefits of planting a number of fruit trees last year. All were looking good but the fruit not yet ripe enough to pick. I decided to wait a few more days. When I returned, some pheasants, which I had seen gathered in the field, had gorged themselves leaving not a single plum and all the apples had been half eaten. Potatoes fared slightly better. The rabbits only uprooted six of the twenty varieties planted.

Smile for the Day: What do you call a Roman with a bad cold? - Julius Sneezer!
