TO EU OR NOT EU: What has the EU done for us? Initially it was about free trade but has developed into something more restricting. It ruined our fishing industry by allowing any other country to fish in our waters. The act of having to throw dead fish back into the sea to match quotas is a despicable waste. The wrong kind of fish does not know it shouldn’t have swum into the net at this particular time. Farmers too have suffered. Much of EU money goes to subsidising unviable farmers in Europe and the UK famers are locked into never-ending tomes of paperwork. We also have to comply with the idiosyncrasies of straight bananas and cucumbers. Children under eight must not blow up balloons and recently, worst of all, the French voted against a UK safety measure to protect cyclists from being hit by lorries. This would have been by improving the driver’s view from their cab on the present blind spot. Even worse, EU Law tops UK Law. We meticulously abide by the rules whilst many of our European counterparts ignore them. Big business state that our trade will suffer. I think not, Europe needs us more than we need them.

ACCIDENTS: Why are some people so un-public spirited that they damage your car in a car park but haven’t got the courtesy to leave a note? This has happened to me twice in so many months. This means that, through no fault on my part, I have to pay for the repairs.

SMILE FOR THE DAY: Bill: Have you heard about Fred’s good fortune? Sam: No, What’s happened? Bill: His scarecrow has been awarded the top Agricultural Prize. Sam: Whatever for? Bill: They said he was outstanding in his field.
