Menace of Mink: Do these people, who release mink into the countryside, realise the drastic outcome of their behaviour? Do they even care? Not only does it affect the wildlife by killing e.g.ducklings, but one got in with my new litter of piglets and killed all but one of five. My Rare Breed piglets are only four to six inches long when born, unlike large commercial pink pigs, so such tiny creatures stood no chance against a large mink.

Fortress UK: I am still trying to break through the Iron Curtain surrounding Government Departments. Wanting to expedite an urgent matter, I requested an email address from one of these departments. I was informed, by the employee on the other end of the phone, that they were not allowed to give out either names or emails because of security! I managed to get an email address in the end, after spending hours trawling through various telephone numbers and eventually finding a sympathetic ear instead of a stream of ‘Jobsworths’. Why should they be allowed to make life so difficult? After all, they are supposed to exist to serve us, the public.

Thefts in the Countryside: We have had numerous objects stolen recently, namely hay, wheelbarrows, and even a short piece of hose attached to an outside tap. I am grateful that I do not have any dry stone walls, as these are the favourite with thieves in Cumbria. The stones are taken for rockeries and other garden features. Lose your wall and you lose your livestock. Nothing is safe.

Smile for the Day: Sarah: I’ve been busy deleting all the German names I had on my mobile.
Emma: Why did you do that?
Sarah: It’s now Hans free!
