APOLOGIES: Apologies to all. Due to husband and self being unwell, I was unable to do the last two weeks.

WEATHER: Well, who’d have thought Siberia would come to Sussex? We are certainly paying for a very warm 2016. The sheep and pigs seem to be managing despite zero and below temperatures. A good supply of vegetables and grain, in large quantities keep them warm. Every morning, we have to break the ice on their water troughs, and sometimes the vegetables have also been frozen. Weather girl, Carol on the BBC, intimates that things may soon get better. Let’s hope she is right.

VILLAGE HALL: Film night today, Friday, The BFG (The Big Friendly Giant) suitable for both children and adults, based on Roald Dahl’s book incorporating clever special effects, 7pm for 7.30pm start. £3 entrance, donations for refreshments.

YOUR LIFE IN OTHER HANDS: It continues to amaze me that thoughtless drivers still ignore danger. Surely self-preservation, if not the safety of other road users would make them more aware. People still drive too close to the car in front, and even worse, in all the recent fog with poor visibility, they still drive too fast. Nothing wrong with speed when it is safe and where it is appropriate to do it. I drove very fast round Brands Hatch racing circuit, but one was supposed to do so there. I remember an old American cop programme where the main character at the end used to say, ‘Clowns in the circus are funny, but on the highway they’re lethal’. How true.

SMILE FOR THE DAY: Q. If you saw someone holding a dish of jelly and cream against one ear and a sponge cake against the other, what would you conclude was wrong with them? A. They were a trifle deaf.
