BEYOND THE LAW?: Well at the weekend Network Rail closed the crossing for a prolonged spell in readiness for the replacement of the gates with barriers. The village is cut in two, there is no bus service in Plumpton Lane and long diversions are necessary for motorists. This has been started without listed building consent which was not due to go before the planning committee on Wednesday (September 30). The attitude from Network Rail seems to be ‘Stop us if you can – we are beyond the law’.

WALKIES: On Sunday morning the Footpath Society will gather at the car park in Upper Station Road, Henfield (TQ205 163) in readiness for a five and three quarter mile level walk along the Downs Link Path and the River Adur. There is the possibility for lunch in Henfield. More details on 01273 891701.

FAREWELL DES: After 40 years at Plumpton College, 15 of them as principal, Des Lambert has retired and Jeremy Kerswell has taken over. Today (Friday) at the college there will be formal presentation to mark the retirement. So it is a fond farewell to Des and a warm welcome to Jeremy. Thanks to Network Rail some of us who do not drive will be unable to attend as there is no bus service to the college.JUMBLE ALERT: The village hall committee will be staging a jumble sale in the village hall on Saturday next week (October 10) at 2.30pm. Don’t miss it. If you have any jumble to donate, please take it along to the hall on the day of the sale. Proceeds go towards the maintenance of the village hall.
