The lecturer Joanna Mabutt is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers, who in 1502 formed the Painter-Stainers’ Company which has for over 700 years decorated Royal palaces, coaches and barges, heraldic banners and arms, churches, theatres and buildings (interiors and exteriors), decorations for Midsummer Shows and Lord Mayor’s pageants, funeral banners, portraits, landscapes, clocks, organ pipes, and structures for Court and civic ceremonies. The Company was also involved in the forming of the Royal Academy and has supported education and training of both fine art and decorative painted craftwork for centuries. Joanna is a decorative artist specialising in experimental surface decoration, combining gilding with print and hand painting. She is at present developing ranges of gilded jewellery, fashion and interior accessories.
