COFFEE MORNING: The Royal British Legion Women’s Section will be holding a coffee morning tomorrow, Saturday, in the village hall, Symons Hall (old hall) starting at 10.30am. There will be a raffle, bring and buy and coffee.
FOOTBALL CLUB: This weekend the season gets under way in earnest with the first team in league action with a trip to Sidlesham on Saturday with a 3pm kick off at the recreation ground. On Tuesday the firsts have their first home league fixture versus Saltdean Utd with a 7.45pm kick off at the Caburn. The other teams are still to start their league programme and are still playing friendlies, on Monday the seconds and thirds play each other with a 7.30pm kick off and on Thursday evening the reserves have a home friendly versus Cuckfield Town with a 7.45pm kick off. On Saturday August 15, our FA Cup campaign gets under way when we welcome Beckenham Town to the Caburn for an extra preliminary round fixture. Off the field the defibrillator project is doing well, so much so that the defibrillator has now been ordered. Many thanks to Fisher Athletic for their generous donation to the fund. Anyone still wishing to contribute can e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
ST MARY’S CHURCH: Sunday Services: 8am Holy Communion, 9.45am Sung Eucharist, 6.30pm Evensong. Over 100 people attended the Family Service last week with their teddy bears (many of which were quite threadbare and well loved). The collections raised money for Family Support Work which this year celebrates 125 years of supporting Sussex families. A little oasis in the middle of the week, every Wednesday at 9am Holy Communion using the Book of Common Worship, perhaps followed by Coffee Break in the village hall. Listen out for the sound of all eight bells ringing from St Mary’s as the 5th Bell was returned yesterday. The bell ringers are extremely grateful to everyone who contributed to the fundraising campaign and thankful for the talents and workmanship of those who have mended the bell.
