CHRISTMAS FAIR: The Christmas Fair and Grand Draw will take place in the village hall, tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am until 12.30pm. There will be books, DVDs, toys and games, cards, rainbow stalls, cakes and gourmet, fun and games for all the family.
FOOTBALL CLUB: Tomorrow, Saturday, the first team are away to Selsey and kick-off at the High Street Ground is at 2pm rather than the normal 3pm. Meanwhile, the second team are at home to Westfield in a league fixture and kick-off at the Caburn is 3pm. On Sunday the Veterans travel to Lindfield for a Fred Pretty Cup fixture with an 11am kick-off time. On the social side, Thursday sees the start of a regular pub quiz in the Caburn Pavilion bar. It’s a fun general knowledge quiz open to all with teams of four and with a prize for the winning team. Start is around 7.30pm so come along and bring a team or join one on the night. Christmas is coming and there will be a full range of events including a children’s party, grand draw (tickets are available now) New Year’s family party and the usual senior members party.
ST MARY’S: Sunday is Advent Sunday and we celebrate with 8am Holy Communion, 9.45am Family Eucharist and the lighting of the first Advent candle. Evensong is held at 6.30pm. There is still time to sponsor a light on the Christmas tree in the churchyard ahead of the Lights of Love service on Saturday December 5 at 4pm. Advance notice: Share the light of the Christingle at a very special Family service on Sunday December 6. Our Youth group members will be leading this service at 9.45am.
BRIDGE CLUB: At its meeting on Wednesday November 18, the result of the duplicate pairs played was: 1, Alan Disney and Roy Skan; 2, Liz and Tim Owen; 3, Lesley Durrant and Alan Grindley. The club next meets in the St Mary’s room of the village hall on Wednesday at 7.30pm. Contact 814220.
WI: At the WI Annual Meeting in November President Norma Phillips retired after two years and Teresa Keen became the new President, with Carol McDougall continuing as Secretary and Sylvia Burton as Treasurer. The WI is celebrating Christmas in a variety of ways: a joint Christmas party in Firle with the other WIs in the group, out for a meal at The Royal Oak in Barcombe and, on December 1 at 7.30pm in the village hall it is party time again with mince pies and John Cave entertaining with his songs with a guitar. Come as a visitor to one of our meetings to hear about the variety of opportunities offered to WI members, we would love to welcome some new members.
FLOWER CLUB: A Floral Blizzard is the title of the demonstration by Stephen McDonnell in the village hall at 2pm on Wednesday. A bumper Christmas raffle, a raffle of demonstrator’s flower arrangements, tea and a mince pie. Visitors most welcome for £5 admission to this special meeting.
