FOOTBALL AND SOCIAL CLUB: Tomorrow, Saturday, weather permitting, the first team are away to Crawley Down Gatwick in a SCFL Div 1 league fixture with a 3pm kick-off. The seconds are at home to Lancing, also with a 3pm kick-off at the Caburn Ground and the thirds are away to Ashurst Wood in a Mid-Sussex league fixture with a 2pm kick-off time. On Sunday the Under 18s are at home to Newhaven in a league fixture with an 11am kick-off at the Caburn. Also on Sunday, the veterans are away to Ardingly vets in a Fred Pretty cup game, also with an 11am kick-off. Please check with the club or on the website before travel as all games are subject to possible postponements due to the wet weather. On the social side, this Monday afternoon is the Senior Members’ party which kicks-off at 2.30pm in the Caburn Pavilion bar. There is no charge for members but there is a small charge for guests to go towards the catering costs. The club would like to take this opportunity of wishing everyone a Happy, prosperous and healthy 2016.

ST MARY’S: New year, new time. The new time for Sunday morning services is 10am, at least for the first three months of 2016 as a trial. This Sunday marks the Baptism of Christ. Other services remain 8am Holy Communion, 6.30pm Evensong and Wednesday 9am Holy Communion. Prayer Lists. If you are or know of someone who would like to be prayed for, whether going through personal difficulties, illness or bereavement, do please make yourself known to a member of the congregation to be added to our daily prayer lists. On Tuesday the Men’s Club meets from 7.30pm in the Church Room with Bob Cairns presenting A History of Lewes. Open to all, you are assured a warm welcome. On Saturday January 30 at 3pm there will be a memorial service for Robin Norris to which all who knew this remarkable man are invited.

COUNTRY MARKET: The Country Market will be open on January 12 following the Christmas break. The producers look forward to welcoming their regular customers and would love to see some new ones. The market takes place in the village hall each Tuesday from 10am to 11am and sells an array of homemade, home grown, and hand crafted items. Tea and coffee are available and a chance to sit down and meet other customers.

BRIDGE CLUB: At its meeting on Wednesday December 23, the result of the duplicate pairs played was: 1, Alan Disney and Roy Skan; 2, Liz and Tim Owen; 3, Valerie and Peter King. The club next meets in the St Mary’s room of the village hall on Wednesday at 7.30pm. Contact 814220.
