Rodmell and Southease

RODMELL WI: Had an interesting meeting on Tuesday February 19 when we had an Evening of Edwardian Entertainment with soprano Katharine Collett, who also gave us details of how ladies would dress for dinner, tea etc and what they would eat and drink in a Downton Abbey environment. Quite a few visitors attended and enjoyed themselves. I hear our pub had a very good Quiz evening on Saturday February 23 with 75 people taking part.

CHARITY QUIZ: Don’t forget we have an important Charity Quiz on March 13 at our pub. Ticket are £12 per person, which includes a two-course supper. Tables of four to six persons and the evening commences at 7pm. Tickets from [email protected] or 01273 474980. It’s to raise money for St Peter and St James, our local hospice.

THANK YOU: May I say a big thank you to all those considerate cyclists who use the cycle paths that were built for them, from Ringmer and from Lewes to Kingston. To those that don’t use them like a lot of other people, I’m lost for words

REPAIR SHOPS: It’s nice to read in the Sussex Express about the fact one can take things you own that have gone wrong to repair shops that are being set up around the country. As we are such a throwaway society and these days it’s cheaper to buy a new fridge, microwave, freezer etc, than pay someone to repair it, it seems sensible to recycle or repair and stop the mountains of household goods mounting up and destroying our lovely world. Keeping up appearances probably has a lot to do with our wasteful society as well. Are we all becoming so insecure, that we have to project an image of wealth, even though it’s all on the card. The old saying after the war was Make do and mend and people seemed a lot happier, not forever chasing after rainbows.
