Rodmell & Southease

APOLOGIES: for no PP last week. I did send it off with a first class stamp but it did not reach its destination. This is not the first time it’s happened and since we pay an awful lot for postal services these days I was not pleased. It cost me £13 to send 13 small Christmas cards to various places abroad last week and I’ve now given up sending Christmas parcels as the postage in many cases works out more than the contents.

CHURCH SERVICE: The service in St Peter’s Church, Rodmell for Alice Brenda Fleet, long time resident of Rodmell, until she moved to Ditchling Common, took place on November 20 at 3pm. The service was well attended and people were invited back tour pub afterwards. I used to take Kenneth and Brenda to the station to catch a train to London quite often and at times to Gatwick Airport. Brenda was a lovely person who loved her garden and despite note being able to get around very well in later years, she still worked in the garden and walked around the village. She always had a smile for everyone she met.

VILLAGE EVENTS: As this will be the one and only PP for December, I will give a list of village events starting with Carol Singing on Monday December 14 at Lower Rodmell, Rose cottage 6pm. Monday December 21 meet at The Smugglers the Paddocks; Carols Service December 20 at 4pm by candlelight; Family Communion Service, 11am December 25; United Service December 27. Coffee Morning, December 16 in our pub.

May I wish all readers a good Christmas and a happy and prosperous good year, if the powers that be let that happen. Let’s hope peace will be the word most used for 2016.
