HAVE YOUR SAY: Building on car parks, have your say. A plan to build more than 400 homes across various sites in the Lewes District Council area has been unveiled. These sites are owned by Lewes District Council and the council see this scheme, which will be undertaken by one builder, as a way of helping the council to fulfil its home building target as set by the government. The district wide scheme will feature a mixture of different types of homes. Part of this plan is to build on some car parks in Peacehaven and Telscombe Cliffs, in particular Steyning Avenue and Piddinghoe Avenue. The others being considered are Horsham Avenue, adjacent to The Dell and Fairlight Avenue, Telscombe Cliffs. The Peacehaven and District Chamber Commerce committee is meeting with Lewes District Council on October 6 to present the views of local businesses about the proposals. We want to represent your views, so we are inviting you to put forward in writing any concerns you have regarding these proposals. We regret that no personal representation can be made at the meeting. Only Chamber committee members are permitted to attend.
Remember, it is the business perspective that should be presented. Other consultations for residents and members of the public will be available (details are on the LDC website)
AWARDS: Mayor of Telscombe Cllr Wayne Botting won the Kindness Crowdfunder of the Year award at the JustGiving Award ceremony in London on Wednesday evening. The crowdfunding site was set up as part of the Stand up for Leisha campaign to raise £21k for a powerchair to enable local cerebral palsy girl Leisha, 14 years, to be able to stand for the first time. Cllr Botting was shortlisted from 20,000 crowdfunders to win the title. At the award ceremony Cllr Botting said ‘just to be able to go to the ceremony and be nominated was amazing, but there are really no words to explain the feeling of pride in winning. This was a wonderful campaign that couldn’t have been achieved without the support of the local community and of course Leisha herself.’ Cllr. Botting undertook several events as part of the campaign, including ice bucket challenges, sponsor walks, onsie day and the JustGiving crowdfunding raised in excess of £8000.
