There are still spaces on the Southern Stomp Learn To Line Dance Sunday afternoon workshops and the afternoon Absolute Beginners Class starting in May. This is your chance to see if this form of dance, which does not require a partner, is something that may appeal to you. Line dancing is a great way to get out, have fun, learn new skills, work on memory skills and meet new people and Southern Stomp have been teaching new dancers for the past 22 years so you will be in expert hands. As well as a selection of classes at all levels throughout the week the club has a social activity every month for its members and non-dancing partners, ranging from London Theatre trips, summer walks, ten pin bowling, skittles, meals out, barn dances, coach trips, holiday weekends and of course Line Dance Socials. There are very few opportunities, especially daytime that offer Absolute Beginners lessons so if you want to have a go please call Joy Ashton the organiser on 01273 587714 to put your name down, as there are only a few places left.

FOOTNOTES: With the nice gentleman who does the garden for us, beavering away on the weeds in the front garden, Chaplin, after a hearty breakfast, sunning himself on the patio in front of the summer house, his whole body stretched out luxuriously soaking up the warmth of the morning sun, I decided to take myself off for a drive around the small villages with which this area is dotted. This is a delightful treat which I give myself during the Spring and Summer. There is for me a great delight, at this time of the year in seeing some of the downland hamlets that nestle into the folds of those great hills. The small village greens surrounded by banks of waving daffodils. The cottage walls, grey with age, surmounted with lavender and other plants. The entrancing small thatched cottages, with their oaken framed doors and windows, approached by paths of bricks or gravel. The small churches tucked away behind their ancient graveyards where to walk through them amongst the leaning old gravestones is to find a place of perfect peace. In one such place I stood for a moment in a silence only broken by the sweet call of a nearby bird. In a world that seems to only consist of anger, murder, envy and malice, it was a calming moment and a realisation that peace, hope and the renewal of spring are the real things that matter in our lives. I came home refreshed and told Chaplin all about it and how as a young man, I believed in, fought for, protested for and demonstrated for those very objects of peace, harmony and love and how relieved I am that I still feel the same way despite my advancing years. He didn’t reply, but then he never does. Enjoy your week and go safely wherever your journey takes you.
