LIGHT’S UP: The new lighting system at All Saints’ is an absolute revelation, making the church look bigger and friendlier and, as one member of the congregation said last weekend ‘I can actually read the words in my hymn book.’ The photographic exhibition also benefitted from the better lighting and the removal of the Victorian pews in the back area of the Remembrance Chapel made that corner a most attractive socialising space. It’s a great step forward for our church, with more to come both at St Bartholomew’s and All Saints’.

CHRISTMAS FAIR: Our Village Christmas Fair will happen on Saturday December 10, this year, from 10am till 3.30pm and promises to be as seasonally jolly as ever. Outdoors there’ll be the Christmas market with stalls selling Christmas gifts, mulled wine, the bottle tombola, a pocket-money stall, festive goodies and a super pre-loved toy stall which promises to be hugely popular. If you have any items for the toy stall that you’d like to donate, contact Lizzie Chambers on 01435 812470. Donations of bottles for the bottle tombola will be welcomed by Alison and Robin Bather (except perhaps for water which can be a bit of a disappointment as a prize). Contact them on 01435 810076 or deliver to The Old Farmhouse, Foxhunt Green, or they will also collect from you if you’d prefer that. The pub will as usual offer a full range of food and an outdoor Barbecue in the square. Watch out also for tickets to the village pantomime which will be on sale throughout the Fair.

CHRISTMAS GROTTO: Santa arrives in the village at 10.30am and then it’s all go from there on. Indoor entertainment for families will include our famous Christmas Grotto in the Bell Tower where Santa will welcome children with a present. Book in advance for your child’s time with Santa (cost is £5 in advance or £6 on the day) by sending your cheque payable to Friends of Waldron Churches with an SAE and details of your child/children’s ages and whether they are boys or girls, to The Christmas Elf, Brambles, Dern Lane, Waldron TN21 0PN. You’ll get a letter back with your special ticket and session time. Included in the price is a visit to Santa’s Workshop in the church where children can enjoy face-painting, and fun with glitter, glue, colouring and clay modelling. Mr Pineapple Head will also entertain the children there from 12.15pm to 1pm. For parents, the WI will be offering a hot cuppa, coffee, cake and biscuits to enjoy while children are making stuff. As one grateful parent said last year, it’s the best value for money anywhere, so don’t bother to struggle with trains to London, just come to Waldron.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The annual meeting of Waldron residents’ NW group will be today, Friday, at the Lucas Hall at 7.30pm. MP Nus Ghani will attend.

QUIZ: The pub Quiz this month will be on Monday at The Star starting at 7.30pm, supporting the charity Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.

SERVICES: Morning services this Sunday (Advent) will be at St Bartholomew’s at 8am (Holy Communion) and 10am for Parish Eucharist. The Advent Carol Service will be at 6pm at All Saints’.
