WHAT’S UP?: The group String Theory (string-driven swing) is performing this Sunday from about 12.30pm at the Star. The next Pub Quiz Night will be on Monday February 27. The usual arrangements apply, with maximum six people per team and £8 per head including supper.

SING FOR FUN: The next meeting of the group who sing for fun will be on Monday at 2pm. This monthly sing-along is informal and held at the Methodist Church Hall on the corner of Firgrove Road. Well-known songs, a pianist and conductor and a break in the middle for refreshments. The very reasonable charges are to cover expenses. Go on, singing makes you feel better, have some fun.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: This annual event is led by a different national group of women each year and is a remarkable circle of prayer. This year’s event is led by the Christian women of the Phillippines who have written the service on the theme of ‘Am I being unfair to you?’ and it has been translated into 1,000 different languages and dialects to be used throughout the world. It begins at sunrise on Friday 3rd March on the island of Samoa and finishes at sunset off the cost of American Samoa. Our local service will be at the Union Church in Heathfield High street at 10.30am.

FOUR IN A BAR: I just love hearing close harmony singing and a recently-formed quartet is about to perform a programme for us at All Saints’ on March 11 at 7pm. Don’t miss it, they sound brilliant and will send you out with a big grin on your face, I promise. What’s more (it gets better and better) they’re arranging their programme to finish in time for us all to leg it across the road to the pub in time to order dinner to complete a thoroughly cheerful evening. Raise a glass to them. Tickets are a steal at £5 and will be available at The Star and profits go to the Friends of Waldron Churches.

ERRATUM: Apologies to the Waldron Country Market which I said (erroneously) was at the Holy Cross Priory for their monthly appearance this week. (That’ll teach me to check what I read elsewhere). Roy Wilkinson tells me that the market is always on the second Thursday of the month, please note.

SERVICES: This weekend’s services (on Sunday) are both at All Saints’ at 8am for Holy Communion and at 10am for Morning Worship followed by refreshments. The preacher will be George Pitcher.
