JEVINGTON AND FILCHING WI: The weather may have been uninviting outside the hall but inside the welcome was very warm and friendly. President Rose welcomed three new members and three visitors to the February meeting. The coffee meet had been at the Hospice and the Out and About group would be walking at the Harbour on February 27, followed by a guided tour of the Royal Hippodrome on March 3. The summer luncheon has been booked at the Kings Head Horsebridge and members were asked to make a note of tea at Ringmer WI on June 29. Also stewards were needed in the WI craft marquee at the South of England Show on June 8 to 10. The craft group would meet as usual on the third Thursday in the month at Christine’s house and this month there would be decoupage eggs to make or painted note cards. A lovely display of green hearts made by members and representing Climate Change were on display. Next month’s meeting Teddy Bear’s Picnic will be an opportunity for members to get to know one another. Bursaries to be used at WI events were drawn out of a hat and given to four lucky members. This month’s competition, A Lion, was won by Maureen B’s beautifully painted lion’s head.
Our speaker Ken Pollock captivated everyone with his skilful and amusing Tribute to Stanley Holloway. Members thought they’d heard it all with Albert and the Lion, Magna Carta and Sam but then came the community singing which nearly raised the roof. The finale was the Battle of Hastings where Ginny portrayed William the Conqueror and Ros was King Harold. Well done all.
Our next meeting is at 2pm on Thursday March 9 in Trinity Church Hall, Coppice Avenue, Lower Willingdon for a Teddy Bear’s Picnic. The competition is a teddy bear. Visitors are very welcome to attend and for more info please see our website www.jevingtonwi.co.uk or ring Rose on 01323 849562.
