Hooe Parish Council: The next council meeting will be held on Monday, January 19, in Hooe village hall at 7.30pm. There may be further news on the parish council's application to Wealden's Greener, Cleaner, Brighter Fund, which is concerned with the Allotment Project. Hooe residents are welcome to attend the meeting.

Ninfield Parish Council: At the last meeting county councillor Bill Bentley brought the following item to everyone's attention: 'East Sussex County Council has been awarded two stars, (an increase on last year) for the provision of Adult Social Care. This was awarded after a review by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI)'. This means the county council is now judged to offer 'good' services which improves the lives of vulnerable people. County councillor Bill Bentley, lead member for Adult Social Care, said: "The council has given a lot of support to its ASC services and this has driven up standards". He also said that 'this was a significant achievement that I was pleased to have been part of'. Keith Hinkley, director of Adult Social Care, said:"I'd like to say a huge 'thank you' to all the staff in social care who helped make this achievable." Cllr Bentley usually attends the parish council meetings should you wish to speak to him.

Rainfall: My usual call from Diana to give us details of the rainfall during December, during that month we had 34mm, just under one and a half inches. It was the coldest start to winter for 35 years (who is too young to remember?). The rainfall for the year (2008) was 790.5mm or 31 and two thirds inches, apparently we have had around that amount each year for three years. Diana is quite sure we will not suffer a water shortage during 2009!

Mobile Library: Tomorrow (Saturday), this welcome service will be in Hooe opposite Denbigh Court, from l.50pm until 2.35pm. From there it is driven to Ninfield arriving first in Millfield at 2.50pm and remaining until 3.25pm. The next and last call is in Downs View where you can find it from 3.40pm until it leaves at 4.05pm. I hope there is a decent selection of your preferred choice.

Church Services: Sunday, January 11: St Mary's Ninfield - 10.30am Confirmation Service with Bishop Wallace. St Oswald's, Hooe: No service this Sunday.
