Organisers of this year’s Rustington Village Christmas Event, on Saturday (December 7), have hailed it a rousing success, with hundreds of villagers taking part in the activities.

Everything from fairground rides, side shows, charity stalls and even a visit from Father Christmas made an appearance during the day.

And it was not just visitors getting into the festive mood but the village’s shops and traders, too. The scent of mince pies and mulled wine was wafting from many of the shops doors.

Rustington Parish Council chairman Andy Cooper said: “It was, as always, a great event.

“We had more than 230 children seen by Santa in his grotto. And there were loads of market stalls and children’s rides, too. The whole day had a lovely community feel throughout.”

The village’s Christmas lights, once again, lit up the shopping precinct with plenty of stores decorating their windows to this year’s theme of turkey and tinsel.

The judges of the fancy dress and window competition had a tough time deciding on the winners, with 11 entries vying for the top spot. However, it was R & I Stacey Ltd, in The Street, that proved victorious, with Flowers of Rustington being coming in as the runners-up.

The day was organised by Rustington Chamber of Trade and Commerce, with the help from the Littlehampton District Lions Club, the parish council and Store Property Investments.
