Villagers warned after work con

A MAN demanded more than £100 from an elderly villager for doing work that was not requested.

Police have urged residents to be careful, after the man was reported as going door-to-door in The Street, East Preston, on Friday, offering to paint fence panels.

At one home, at about 10am, he set about doing the work without asking permission, and charged 140, which he was given.

He was driving an M-registration van, and was described as white, between 5ft 4in and 5ft 8in tall, aged in his 40s or 50s. He was bald apart from dark hair at the back and sides, spoke with a southern accent and was wearing grey trousers.
