Villagers work out how they can help Children in Need at Yapton

YAPTON villagers are being encouraged to join in a ‘gymathon’ in aid of Children in Need, on Friday (November 15).

And as well as raising funds for the charity, the event will give people the chance to try out Yapton’s new outdoor gym equipment on the King George V playing field.

It will be led by villager Stacey Turner and a group of friends from 9.30am-2.30pm, who will be encouraging people to work out on a health walker, a handle rowing boat, a power push, a ski-stepper and other kit.

Yapton Parish Council oversaw the project to provide the new facilities, with grants from Arun District, West Sussex County and Ford Parish councils, and developer Charles Church South Coast, currently building homes off Goodhew Close in the village.

Stephen Haymes, chairman of Yapton Parish Council, said: “It’s a range of active exercise equipment such as you would find in any good gym in the country. But it’s something that everyone in the village can use and enjoy. It’s outside in the fresh air and above all it’s free!”

The new exercise equipment has been sited on the playing field just to the north of the skate park.
