Vintage vehicles star in classic seafront display

WAVES of nostalgia swept over visitors to Bexhill seafront on Sunday when the Bexhill 100 Motoring Club staged a display of vintage vehicles.

Classic sports and saloon cars lined up to carry people's imaginations back to the days when the open road beckoned and driving was still a real adventure.

More than 30 cars and their owners took part in the event, enjoyed in glorious sunshine that set sparkling chrome and polished paintwork off to a tee.

And adding to the aura of times past, members of the Bexhill Classic Cycle Group pedalled along to the promenade to join the fun, dressed in period costume and sporting their 'jiggers' of yesteryear.

On Sunday, June 13 the Bexhill riders will team up with Bespoke of Eastbourne for a mass beach-themed seafront cycle ride, setting off from Eastbourne's Wish Tower at 2pm.

The following Saturday, the cyclists plan to join celebrations organised by the Burtons St Leonards Society to commemorate architects James and Decimus Burton, to whom many of the resort's buildings can be attributed.

And on Sunday, June 27 from 10am the Bexhill Classic Cycle Group and Bexhill 100 join forces again for a further seafront display -- a second chance to step back in time through the engineering of bygone days.

Bexhill 100 Motoring Club meets for an informal social evening on the fourth Friday of every month at the Cooden Beach Hotel, Cooden Sea Road, Bexhill.
