Visitor numbers up at re-vamped Littlehampton centre

VISITOR numbers for the re-vamped exhibition at Littlehampton’s riverside Look & Sea Centre have leapt by almost 50 per cent since its installation a year ago.

Figures up to the end of May show 7,267 people visited the displays tracing Littlehampton’s seaside and maritime heritage, compared with 5,060 for the same period a year earlier.

The exhibition improvements were made possible thanks to a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of almost £50,000, which has also paid for a new riverside heritage trail with interpretation boards and a heritage education officer.

The final part of the project, the production of a colourful education and learning pack for visits to the exhibition by schools and other organisations, has now been completed, too.

It was presented to Peter Hussey, chairman of the Look & Sea trustees, by Evert Baker, of printers, Baker Press, Ferring.

L&R International, of Rustington, which is managing the community heritage project for Look & Sea, produced the attractive pack, which mirrors the exhibition’s focus on Littlehampton’s harbour and seaside history, and provides groups with access to worksheets and photographic resources, all linked to the national curriculum.

L&R International has also produced a new promotional leaflet for the exhibition and Look & Sea’s popular Harbour Lights café and restaurant, to be distributed across the south-east.
