Visitors Will Be Chuffed

IT'S all aboard for Littlehampton's new Road Train, officially launched this week to make the going easy for visitors to the seaside resort.

Leading councillors Derek Whittaker and Mike Northeast waved flags to send the train without tracks off on its circuit linking Littlehampton's river, seafront and town centre.

The aim is to entice visitors, many of whom never venture from the seaside, onto the train and into the shopping centre.

Mr Northeast, chairman of the Town Centre Action Group, which is a partner in the road train project with regeneration group Littlehampton 2000, said: "We're chuffed to bits with our new road train.

"It will help to open up the whole of Littlehampton to the many tourists and visitors we get to the town."

And Mr Whittaker, Arun council leader and chairman of the Littlehampton 2000 group, said the new train would enable visitors to travel to other parts of the town while leaving their cars parked on the seafront or in the town centre.

"The road train is an environmentally friendly way for people to discover just what Littlehampton has to offer."

The train route starts from Arun Parade, passes through the town centre and then runs to Littlehampton Swimming and Sports Centre, before heading back to the start. Bright yellow and blue signs mark out stopping points along the way.

Tickets can be bought on the train for individual stops or for the complete route and the train is capable of taking wheelchairs.
