VOLUNTEER COLUMN: help needed to keep village youth project on the road

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help keep a village youth project on the road.

The Angmering Youth Forum was set up in response to a request from young people in the village, to provide them with a meeting place.

The venue is actually a converted double-decker bus, now transformed into a chill-out area for the youngsters, and which can be used by other villages to obtain maximum usage and make it more cost-effective.

The aim is to help the young people to develop life skills and provide a diversion from anti-social behaviour, while at the same time having fun.

And for all this to continue, the forum needs more volunteer bus drivers, preferably already with a PSV double-decker licence, although training can be provided. They need to be aged at least 21.

Helpers are also needed to assist with staffing the bus, to ensure young people abide by the rules. The forum would really welcome young people striving to achieve their Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards and anyone who knows how to set up technology such as Wii and X-Box in a short timescale.

For more information on these and other volunteering opportunities in the area, contact Derek Moore, Arun Volunteer Centre co-ordinator, telephone 01903 731223, email [email protected] or call in at the centre on the ground floor, Bradbury Centre, 1-5 St Martin’s Lane, Littlehampton, from 9am-4pm on Mondays and Thursdays and 9.30am-4.30pm on Wednesdays.
