VOTE: Do council officers deserve £100k-plus salaries?

Councils in West Sussex have moved to respond to figures released by the TaxPayers' Alliance (TPA) which named council staff who have been earning six-figure sums.

The alliance’s Town Hall Rich List 2012 shows 19 staff at West Sussex County Council earned more than £100,000 in the 2010/11 financial years.

It also shows eight staff at Chichester District Council were paid six figures or more in the same period. Four members of staff at Arun District Council were also included on the list.

However a Chichester District Council spokeswoman said: “Chichester District Council currently has only one member of staff whose salary is over £100,000.

“The recent figures released by TPA stating that the council has eight staff members paid over £100,000 are incorrect.

“The number of senior managers in the corporate management team at the council has been cut in the last few years, from nine in 2010 to five, with further savings and changes planned for 2012. A report will be going to full council on May 15 on the planned changes and we hope to make an announcement shortly after.
