Vote for Crowoborough Rugby Club in Energyshare Fund

CROWBOROUGH Rugby Club is in the running for a major prize.

River Cottage and British Gas are launching the vote of an energyshare fund, a new green initiative giving people a say on where hundreds of thousands of pounds should be spent to help local community projects.

The energyshare launch fund will enable communities to save money by generating renewable energy which will create an income stream to support a variety of activities.

Crowborough Rugby Club could win the top prize of £100,000.

If successful, organisers plan to install a rainwater harvester, solar panels and a wind turbine to make the clubhouse more sustainable.

Club chairman Graham Callard said: “We are delighted to be in the final 19 groups selected by British Gas and River Cottage.

“We are now calling on people from across East Sussex to vote for us so we can win funding. We hope as many people as possible cast their vote for Crowborough Rugby Club by visiting”

River Cottage’s Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall said: “We have already seen at communities who through either saving money on their energy bills or creating income though energy generation have reinvigorated key community facilities. The funding available is not simply about turbines or solar PV, it’s about enabling people to make their communities more sustainable – both environmentally and economically.”

There will be four recipients of funding, decided entirely by the public via a vote that is taking place at There are three categories: small, medium and large and people can vote once in each category.

Crowborough Rugby Club is in the medium category and faces competition from five other groups. They hope to gain as much local support as they can in addition to inspiring others across Britain with their exciting plans.

The public vote is now open and the winners will be announced on December 3 where people will be able to vote on which projects will receive up to £100,000 each from the Energyshare fund.
